Fire Extinguishers
Portable fire extinguishers are an effective means of combating small fires with an aim to clearing the way out of a building or stopping a small fire from growing larger. There are several different types of fire however, and choosing the right type of extinguisher is of the utmost importance.
Having these measures in place can prove vital to protecting your staff, assets, and property. Hover over the images below to learn more about the types of extinguishers.
Just as important as having portable fire extinguishers available on site is ensuring that they are correctly maintained. Several risks are present if fire extinguishers are not maintained including:
-
Internal corrosion which can lead to unit explosion upon activation of the extinguisher
-
The hose/horn seal may deteriorate which could lead to leakage and a resulting lack of pressure if the extinguisher has to be operated, reducing its effectiveness dramatically
-
The unit may be over or under pressure which could result in too weak a flow or could potentially explode
-
Hose/horn blockages could mean that the extinguisher will not activate properly and could potentially reduce the effectiveness of the extinguisher
These are some risks which can be avoided with a maintenance regime in place.
